The following diagram shows the topology of a corporatenetwork consisting of three buildings. Each building contains anumber of PCs and a switched LAN. The three buildings are connectedby a core router, and the whole corporate network is connectedthrough a Gateway router with a single connection to an Internetserver with IP address 7.0.0.1. The link between the Gateway routerand the Internet server uses the subnet 7.0.0.0/30.

Each building needs 500 host IP addresses for its enddevices (PCs, printers, servers etc), and VLSM is implemented. Inorder to determine the base network address for each building, useyour and your partner’s student ID numbers for the buildings in thefollowing way:

  1. The IP address 100.78.46.25 from it, and calculate thenetwork address associated with this IP address and thecorresponding subnet mask for Building 1 for accommodating thehosts in Building 1.

  2. Your lab partner should do the same for building 2100.78.68.29(decide between yourselves who will design whichbuilding).

  3. For building 3, assign all addresses from the 172.16.0.0range with the appropriate subnet mask.

  4. Choose private IP addresses of your choice for theconnection between the core router and the Gatewayrouter.
